Getting Virus Alert for System47.scr

Getting IDP.ALEXA.53 from Avast. Also went to (virustotal.com) . Uploaded file and is filled with malware.

Comment:

meWho, March 3, 2022: Unfortunately, a few antivirus (AV) programs have raised a "false positive" malware flag when loading up this screensaver. According to the VirusTotal scan report, System47 has successfully passed scan tests on the majority of AV scanners, but a few have detected activities labeled as suspicious. An AV can give out a "false positive" detection even when a non-malicious program's "behavior" is similar to a previously known malicious code to some degree. As a standard practice, I've submitted False-Positive reports to AV companies requesting for white-listing. Hopefully those "false positive" flags will be removed in the near future. In the mean time, please keep your AV program's virus definition file up-to-date. Please note: if you do choose to quarantine the screensaver file, you won't be able to run it on your machine. Please rest assured that there's no malicious code in System47. Sorry for the inconvenience if you've encountered this issue.

Multi-monitor support

First and foremost, thank you for this, like many others, I have been using this for many years!

Multi-monitor support would be great, whenever you have the time of course.

Comment:

Just released the new version of the screen saver. And yup, multi-monitor is supported -- well, at least it works on my test machine. Hopefully, it will work on your setup as well. Cheers~ smile

Question

Hi All...I have been a fan since the 1960s. Will this new version be available for MAC os?

Comment:

Sorry, this will take quite a while sad I currently don't have a mac to run development on it. Still planning though

I am SO glad you are back at it!!!

Like many other users here, I have been running this for about 15 years. It was my only screensaver on all my computers until Flash went away! I'm an IT professional, and before I worked from home, I used to love it when people asked me if I was really monitoring something! I had a lot of fun with that, as I am sure you can imagine.

I can't wait until the release of the new screensaver. However, there are a couple of questions/requests if they don't delay the initial release. If so, maybe you will consider them in future releases.

1. On my personal computer, my Mute setting was persistent. My company forces the screensaver with Group Policy, and my System47 would not stay muted. It may have been due to Flash and/or the change from Shockwave to Adobe, but I hope the new release will resolve this.
2. I doubt the "clickable areas" would work with the screensaver, but please retain the clock if you can. That is a fantastic addition.
3. Windows weather would be another fantastic addition and would add to the realism of the monitoring theme.
4. You could also include other PC stats (CPU, Memory, Temp, etc.) if that is possible.

Sorry for all the suggestions. I am not a programmer and have no idea if any of that is doable. I just wanted to chime in and tell you how glad I am to see this refreshed!

Do you have an ETA for the screensaver release?

Thanks so much!

Robert

Lol, so glad to hear your excitement. I have just uploaded the new version of the screen saver. Hopefully it will work on your machine. The underlying animation tech is still based on Flash. However, it doesn't rely on the Flash plugin anymore. To answer your questions:

1. The not-persistent-mute might have been a bug from the old saver. I did find some audio-control related bugs in my code. Though I cannot guarantee if I've eliminated them all. Fingers crossed

2. Yep, for the new version of the screensaver, I've disabled the "clickable area". It might come back in the future. I still like the idea of a screensaver that could be interactive :-) Yup, the clock is still there. It won't go away.

3 & 4. Weather? Hmm.. perhaps a Mars weather forecast. Lol. I was thinking about showing random images pulled from NASA's website, or some James Webb telescope data.... Too many ideas but too little time. We need Q !

Let me know if you're able to run the new screensaver

Cheers!

So good to see you back at it.

I've been using system47's screensaver for 13 years until Flash hit EOL. I'm very happy to see it revived, revamped, and reworked. It's so going to be the de facto once again. --keijo

:-) so happy to hear that, and thanks for your support! Yep, the Flash player plugins are dead. Though the Flash-type animation Projector is still supported by Adobe Animate. So I can still update my old code to create that for desktop apps. Let's see how long this can stretch ;-)

System47 2.5.01 not installable as Windows Screensaver in Windows 7

I replaced my beloved System47 2.2 by 2.5.01 big grin but have a problem (Win 7):
the "system47 v2.5.01.exe starts when clicked, no problem so far
but I cannot find an entry in the Windows 7 display properties oh .

I renamed the .exe to .scr and moved in into folder C:Windows,
so System47 shows in the display properties and can be started (Preview)
but it starts in windowed mode, not in full screen.

I can change the setting after System47 2.5.01 was started
but it doesn't remember the fullscreen setting.

So is there any parameter or trick to get the 2.5.01 version
as a Win 7 fullscreen screensaver when it starts ?

Comment:

Hi Kevi, the current release is a "viewer" program for Windows, not a screensaver program. This viewer program is just an executable file (with .exe extension) and no installation required. It is portable. Oh, the "full screen" mode setting is per session only, it won't remember this setting the next time you run it. Though you did bring up a good idea. I will change this behavior in the next update. As for the screensaver program, I am still running tests. It will be out soon. Please be patient and check back here again later. Thanks for your comments! smile

This program is compromised

You have malware on this site. My antivirus picked it up when trying to install. Please resolve.

Comment:

The program has been tested and passed virus scan check on Kaspersky and on virustotal.com before its release. Also, there's no installation for the Viewer Program. The program is portable.
Could you please provide more info on which antivirus software you used and what the reported thread was. It could be a false positive due to that the program is not digitally signed.
